Welcome to Greenwood

Peaceful lakeshore community with lots of activities

Greenwood is a peaceful city nestled along Lake Minnetonka’s Excelsior Bay and Saint Alban’s Bay. The community was founded in 1956 but was predated by the opening of the famous Old Log Theatre, which has been staging screwball comedies and other plays on the lakeshore since the 1940s. Greenwood is a recreation destination, housing the only marina on Lake Minnetonka with covered boat slips. Popular activities on the lake include boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming in summer, then ice fishing, skating, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing in winter. On the west side of the city, bikers and walkers can access the winding 15-mile Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail.

Greenwood is a small community with around 750 residents. Real estate mostly consists of spacious, modern single-family homes.

People & Lifestyle

Greenwood is one of the smaller communities on Lake Minnetonka, but it boasts some of the lakeshore’s finest attractions whatever the season. Greenwood’s small size makes it one of Lake Minnetonka’s most welcoming and close-knit communities. While there are no schools located within the community itself, Minnesota’s statewide open enrollment policy means that local families can choose among the many outstanding schools in the neighboring communities of Excelsior and Deephaven (based on availability).

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Greenwood’s Old Log Theatre is the oldest professional theater in Minnesota and one of the longest continuously operating theaters in the entire United States. The Old Log first opened on the lakeshore in the 1940s and moved into its current location in the 1960s. Performances are mostly focused on British farces and screwball comedies, though there are frequent forays into other types of production, including a holiday season production based on the songs of Bing Crosby. Cast & Cru at the Old Log Theatre is a stylish spot for pre-theater dining with a creative menu of chef-driven New American cuisine. The menu at Cast & Cru draws on diverse international influences, and the delicious meals are paired with exceptional wines, craft beers, and an extensive whiskey collection. Bean’s Greenwood Marina is a family-run marina that offers Lake Minnetonka’s only covered boat slips, eliminating the need to outfit your boat with factory-produced covers. Other services and amenities on offer at Bean’s Marina include Lake Minnetonka’s largest gas dock and all manner of boat cleaning and detailing.

Highlights include Excelsior’s annual events such as September’s Apple Day street fair, Christkindlmarkt during the holiday season, and Friday Grill Nights at Deephaven’s historic 19th-century Cottagewood General Store.
